A Spray of Germs

Anton Panick
Held his breath,
Hearing a sneeze
On a subway so crowded,
That he couldn’t run.
It seemed suddenly foolish,
Holding the hand rail
With vinyl-gloved hands,
When germs by the millions were launched
By the sneeze.
All his precautions,
Were swamped by the sneeze…
And on top of it all,
The subway was stalled.
So holding his tie over his mouth,
He breathed,
But only enough,
So he wouldn’t pass out.
