GOOD INTENTIONS…NEVER BAKED

A banana bunch,
Green when I got them,
Then yellow-ripe,
Then blotchy-brown,
Then redolent, mushy, inedibly soft…
Always one or two in a bunch.
And not being wasteful,
I put them aside
For banana bread,
Adding days to the life
Of past-ripe bananas.
But fruit flies soon gathered
And signaled them unfit
Even for batter.
