Sit Tight…Life’s Approaching

I might not have conquered the world today,
Conquering’s done by so few.
I got no rewards to puff up my pelf,
But neither did I embarrass myself.
There’s a girl I should have asked for a date,
But she’s too unapproachably cute.
In bistros I point to the entrée I want,
In French it’s best to stay mute.
I never volunteered answers in school,
Even to questions I knew.
I might not have asked the boss for a raise,
For now what he pays will do.
I didn’t play ball, so I didn’t strike out,
I dread being over the hill.
No trophies were won to put on the shelf,
But neither did I embarrass myself.
